About T91/P91 Heat Resistant Steels

T91/P91 is an Ferritic heat-resistant steel, developed by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the 70s of last century and listed in ASME in 1983. In 1995, the steel was included in the GB 5310 standard, and the brand was 10Cr9Mo1VNb.

Based on 9Cr1Mo (T9) steel, T91/P91 steel has been developed by pure purification, fine crystallization metallurgy technology and after micro alloying, controlled rolling and controlled cooling process.The steel has good comprehensive mechanical properties, with a stable  microstructure after high temperature aging and a good the welding performance and technological properties.Thus a new generation of middle alloy heat-resistant steel has been developed.The new 10Cr heat-resistant steel contains more alloying contents relative to T92/P92.

Chemical composition

In heat resistant steels, the two most important elements are chromium for oxidation resistance and nickel for strength and ductility. Other elements are added to improve these high temperature properties. The effect of various alloying elements is described below.

The advantages of T91/P91 steel

T91/P91 steel is widely used in high parameter thermal power generation units because of its advantages:

●Compared with stainless steel, the steel has low thermal expansion coefficient and good thermal conductivity.

●The room temperature tensile strength of the steel has high, delta b up to 770MPa, and the plastic is better.

●The steel impact toughness and brittle transition temperature is evidently better than that of X20 and EM12 steel.

●The steel has high temperature enduring strength and higher allowable stress, at 550 degrees Celsius after high temperature enduring strength after running 105h is 2 times that of steel T22 in 540 ~ 610 degrees within the allowable stress is obviously higher than that of T22, TP304H and X20 steel.

●The tube bending process has good properties of the steel.

●The steel high temperature fatigue performance is better than that of T22 and TP304H steel, high temperature oxidation resistance is much higher than that of T22 steel.
